After a long and comprehensive process since 2017, the Emergency Medical Team of Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (EMT MDMC) has been verified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the first internationally classified emergency medical team from Indonesia.
The announcement was delivered directly by Roy Anthony Cosico, EMT Secretariat, WHO Headquarters, who formally handed over the Confirmation Letter of EMT Global Classification to EMT MDMC on Sunday (19/10) at K.H. Sudja’ Mosque Hall of Muhammadiyah Public Medical Center in Gamping.
Syafiq A. These are interrelated and form the foundation for EMT MDMC to continue advancing. Through strong commitment, technical expertise, and held experience, we are determined to keep contributing to humanity and the nation’s welfare,” Syafiq explained.
Previously, EMT MDMC underwent the WHO pre-verification stage on July 9-10. 2025, in Yogyakarta, with technical assistance from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and International Search and Rescue (ISAR) Germany. Based on the evaluation result, WHO deemed EMT MDMC eligible to proceed to the final verification process, which led to its official international classification.
Meanwhile, dr. Agus Taufiqurrahman, Chairman of Muhammadiyah Central Board, expressed hope that this achievement would further strengthen Muhammadiyah’s humanitarian contribution on the international stage.
“After a long journey, Muhammadiyah has successfully gone through the entire WHO verification process. This officially makes Muhammadiyah the first in Indonesia, and 16th worldwide, to have a verified emergency medical team. This will further enhance Muhammadiyah’s role as an integral part of global humanitarian efforts.
With this milestone, Muhammadiyah reaffirms its commitment as a global humanitarian organization that is professional, rooted in islamic values, and fully prepared to contribute to disaster response and health crisis missions at both the national and international levels. (Bintang Adrian)
