Muhammadiyah Student Wins Three Medals at International Competition

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MANILA – Muhammadiyah 1 High School of Yogyakarta (SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta) has once again brought pride to Indonesia after one of its students, Ramadhan Harits Kuswara, won three medals at the SEA Trophy Manila Series Open Short Track Competition, held in the Philippine capital earlier this month.

The international championship took place on January 10-11, 2026, at the SM Skating Mall of Asia in Pasay City. The event was organized by the Philippine Skating Union and officially sanctioned by the International Skating Union (ISU), with athletes from various ISU member countries competing under the 2025 ISU regulations.

Against strong regional competition, Ramadhan delivered impressive performances across several race categories. He secured a gold medal in the Relay Mixed CD 2000 meters, claimed a silver medal in the Junior C 500 meters, and earned a bronze medal in the Junior C 1500 meters. The result highlighted his speed, endurance, and ability to perform consistently in high-pressure races.

In particular, the relay gold medal reflected effective teamwork and race strategy, contributing to Indonesia’s strong showing at the event. His overall achievement demonstrated the growing competitiveness of Indonesia student-athletes on the international sports stage.

The SEA Trophy Manila Series serves as an important platform for evaluating the development of young athletes in speed skating. The competition uses an all-final system format. Meaning, it allows participants to progress through qualification rounds before competing in Final A and Final B races. As a result, success in the tournament is an indicator of readiness for higher-level international competitions.

Ramadhan expressed gratitude for the support he received from his family and SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta. He said the experience strengthened his motivation to continue training and pursue future international events.
