MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, KUWAIT—The main key to the nation development lies in the quality of human resources because they play significant roles in managing all components. No matter how abundant natural wealth is, if it is not supported by the ability to manage, care for, and develop the natural resources, the nation will be left behind.

According to the General Secretary of Muhammadiyah Abdul Mu’ti, Indonesia should prepare for human resources to confront future challenges.

“Many economists mentioned that Indonesia will be the world’s center, and the prediction is mostly regarding market potential,” said Abdul Mu’ti at the National Dialog on ‘Developing Indonesia’ in Kuwait on Saturday (22/10).

Mu’ti mentioned that the main issue of human resources in Indonesia is regarding the weak mentality because of lack of access to education. Indonesia has demographic strength, but achieving the golden generation of 2045 will not be possible if it is not supported by sufficient access to education.

“The main problem of Indonesia is dealing with mentality. We have measured everything physically and neglected the mental aspect. The mentality of our nation is weak,” said Mu’ti.

Indeed, Indonesia is often inferior to other countries and prouder of being labor than becoming leaders of other nations. Lack of confidence leads to inferiority. Thus, Indonesian people should be proud of what this country has.

“Many Indonesians learn multiculturalism in Europe even though inter-religious believers and inter-tribes often can’t live in harmony. In fact, Indonesians can do that among differences of ethnics and groups,” said Mu’ti.
