MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Muhammadiyah extended congratulations and prayers to Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) as the organization marked its 100th anniversary, while calling for stronger collaboration between the two largest Islamic movements in Indonesia to advance the nation and global civilization.
Haedar Nashir, President of Muhammadiyah Central Board, delivered the remarks on Saturday (31/01). He emphasized that cooperation between Muhammadiyah and NU remains essential for Indonesia’s future.
Opening his remarks with greetings and expressions of gratitude, Haedar conveyed deep appreciation on behalf of Muhammadiyah’s leadership and members.
“On behalf of the extended Muhammadiyah family, I offer my heartfelt congratulations,” Haedar said. “Happy 100th anniversary to Nahdlatul Ulama.”
He expressed hope that, as it enters its second century, NU will continue strengthening solidarity among Muslims while upholding religious moderation.
“May Nahdlatul Ulama remain a movement that nurtures Islamic brotherhood,” he said, “reinforcing unity among Muslims while firmly grounded in the values of wasatiyah (moderation) for the benefit of the ummah, the nation, and humanity as a whole.”
Safeguarding Indonesia’s Democratic Journey
Referring to NU’s centennial theme, Safeguarding and Independent Indonesia Toward a Noble Civilization, Haedar voiced confidence that NU will remain a key pillar in guiding Indonesia toward its national ideals.
He, moreover, said NU’s role extends beyond domestic affairs and reaches the international stage.
“We believe Nahdlatul Ulama will continue moving forward,” he said, “guarding Indonesia’s path toward unity, sovereignty, justice, and prosperity, while contributing to a dignified global civilization.”
Haedar also stressed that NU’s future direction aligns with Islam’s universal mission of grace for all creation. He cited the Qur’anic principle wa mā arsalnāka illā raḥmatan lil-‘ālamīn, which emphasizes mercy to all worlds.
At the end of his remarks, Haedar reaffirmed Muhammadiyah’s commitment to walking alongside NU in building a noble civilization.
“With the spirit of brotherhood between Muhammadiyah and NU,” he said, “we will continue to move hand in hand to advance religious life, national unity, and universal humanity, spreading dignity, progress, and blessings for all.”
