MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Syafiq Mughni, a member of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, emphasized that international support for Palestinian independence is gaining strength. This is reflected in the increasing number of countries that have formally recognized Palestine’s sovereignty, driven by global public pressure rejecting Israeli aggression.
“Public pressure is expanding worldwide. This has had a real influence on countries that eventually recognized Palestine. Such pressure must continue to be strengthened so that more states take a firm stance,” Syafiq said in a phone interview on Thursday (25/9).
Syafiq also highlighted the speech of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the United Nations General Assembly, where he stated that Indonesia would recognize Israel only if Israel first recognized Palestine. He described this as a step forward and a clear demonstration of Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Palestinian independence.
However, he noted that major challenges remain, particularly regarding Palestine’s territorial boundaries and the position of the United States as Israel’s main supporter.
“Border issues are very crucial and could become a stumbling block. In addition, we doubt America’s willingness to genuinely support the two-state solution,” he explained.
Syafiq further urged the Indonesian people to keep raising their voices in support of Palestine while also pressing the government to maintain its firm stance. He also underlined the importance of boycotting Israeli products and working to isolate Israel within the international community.
“With these two movements—people’s solidarity and firm positions from world governments—God willing, Israel’s power will weaken, and recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state will continue to grow stronger,” he affirmed.
