The President of PP Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir, stated that the Highest Distinction Award (Mitra Bestari Muhammadiyah Internasional) is bestowed as a mark of honor recognizing Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra’s outstanding support and contributions to the founding of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM).
“Muhammadiyah and UMSU have welcomed a very special guest. Raja Muda Perlis is an exemplary figure who served as a bridge to the birth of UMAM. With the utmost respect, we present two honors: a Doctor Honoris Causa (HC) from UMSU and an Honorary Award as an International Partner from PP Muhammadiyah,” explained Haedar during the open senate session at UMSU Campus Auditorium on Friday (26/9).
Haedar believed that Raja Muda Perlis’ ideas in education, economics, and humanitarian efforts embody progressive values, making them crucial for the development of the era and future generations.
“Raja Muda Perlis is an intellectual and a role model. His egalitarian and democratic stance has paved the way for openness to progressive and relevant thinking within the ASEAN community,” he added.
In his official remarks, Raja Muda Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, emphasized that the honorary title bestowed by Muhammadiyah should not be viewed solely as personal recognition, but rather as a symbol of institutional collaboration aimed at advancing society.
“This title isn’t just for me, but for the prosperity of society. I hope this award will motivate us all to achieve quality progress,” he said.
He also emphasized that this shared responsibility and mandate must be reinforced to strengthen education, uphold religious values, and foster meaningful cooperation between Muhammadiyah and Perlis.
“I believe education is the key to civilization. UMSU has played a role in nurturing knowledgeable and virtuous generations. This honorary title also symbolizes our shared commitment to making knowledge a light and good deeds a pillar,” he continued.
The award ceremony was highlighted by the presentation of the Mitra Bestari Internasional Muhammadiyah Honorary Award by Haedar Nashir, the President of PP Muhammadiyah, and the conferment of an honorary doctorate diploma by UMSU Rector, Agussani, to DYTM Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra ibni Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail.
For additional context, the conferral of this honorary title followed a standardized evaluation process conducted by the Promoter and Co-Promoter. The recognition was based on the Raja Muda Perlis’ significant contributions, including granting permission for the establishment of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) and fostering deeper educational collaboration with Muhammadiyah.
