MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA — President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir discussed the three main missions of the Prophet Muhammad during a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding between PT PLN (Persero), Indonesia’s state-owned electric utility company, and Muhammadiyah on Friday (January 5) at the Muhammadiyah headquarters of Yogyakarta.
But beyond the formalities, the ceremony served as a platform for President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir to delve into the very essence of the Prophet Muhammad’s mission. According to Haedar, the Prophet’s role centered around three core principles.
The first, he emphasized, was the cultivation of noble character in humanity. Haedar believes that strong ethics form the bedrock of any thriving civilization. Without individuals grounded in ethical values, progress remains elusive. This, he explained, is the foundation upon which Muhammadiyah has built its legacy of schools, hospitals, and social facilities – open to all, regardless of background.
“Muhammadiyah stands firmly against discrimination,” Haedar declared, highlighting the organization’s commitment to inclusivity in its service to society.
Then, Haedar shifted the focus to the Prophet’s second mission – promoting universal mercy. He envisioned a world where compassion transcends any boundaries, embracing all corners of the universe. To this end, Haedar commended PLN’s dedication to renewable energy, viewing it as a step towards safeguarding the planet and forging harmony between humanity and nature.
“A warming Earth demands sustainable solutions,” he noted, acknowledging the crucial role of clean energy in ensuring a healthy future for all.
Finally, Haedar delved into the concept of “tajdid” – renewal. Drawing on a hadith, he asserted that the Prophet’s legacy extends beyond his lifetime, carried forward by individuals who reinterpret and revitalize his teachings every century. “Without constant renewal,” Haedar stressed, “stagnation sets in.” This principle of continual innovation, he declared, is the secret behind Muhammadiyah’s endurance for over a century.
The signing ceremony became a potent symbol of this ongoing evolution. As Haedar Nashir and Darmawan Prasodjo, PLN’s President Director, put pen to paper, they committed to collaborating towards a more sustainable future, powered by a shared vision of ethical service and respect for the environment.
The event transcended the mere formality of a contract, becoming a testament to the enduring power of faith, collaboration, and a continuous quest for progress that defines both Muhammadiyah and PLN.
