MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Indonesia’s Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartanto on Friday (06/02) praised Muhammadiyah for its long-standing contribution to Indonesia’s economic and social development, calling the organization a key stakeholder in the nation’s progress.
Airlangga made the remarks during a National Seminar titled Dialogue between the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs and the Muhammadiyah Community, attended by Muhammadiyah members and leaders in Yogyakarta.
Economic Growth Outpaces G-20 Peers
In his presentation, Airlangga outlined the latest developments in Indonesia’s economic performance. He reported that the national economy recorded solid growth in the fourth quarter of 2025, reflecting resilience amid global uncertainty.
“Indonesia’s economy grew by five percent in the fourth quarter,” Airlangga said. “This growth rate is higher than that of most G-20 countries. With an achievement of 5.11 percent, Indonesia exceeded market expectations.”
According to Airlangga, the performance signals strong macroeconomic fundamentals and sustained recovery momentum, particularly as many global economies continue to face pressure from geopolitical tensions and slowing demand.
Airlangga also conveyed President Prabowo Subianto’s economic vision, which sets an ambitious target of eight percent annual growth within the next four years.
“History shows that Indonesia has achieved eight percent growth in the past, including in 1968, 1973, 1977, 1980, and 1995,” he said. “Those achievements were driven by rising investment and the expansion of manufacturing, automotive, and service sectors. We are targeting similar momentum by 2029.”
He emphasized that reaching this target will require focused strategies, priority programs, and strong collaboration, especially in the face of global economic volatility.
“Indonesia can return to eight percent growth by concentrating on strategic priorities while navigating global challenges and uncertainty,” Airlangga added.
Muhammadiyah Seen as Strategic Partner
In his closing remarks, Airlangga expressed appreciation for Muhammadiyah, describing the Islamic organization as an exemplary and strategic partner for the government.
Muhammadiyah’s contributions over more than a century, he said, have significantly strengthened Indonesia’s economic and business ecosystem.
“Muhammadiyah is a solid organization that manages its assets in an orderly, transparent, and disciplined manner,” Airlangga said. “It has become a reference point for other organizations.”
He concluded by reaffirming the government’s recognition of Muhammadiyah as a vital stakeholder in advancing national development and economic resilience. (Bhisma)
