MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Two international students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY) expressed their profound impressions regarding their learning experience at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY). For them, UMY brings many meaningful messages and lessons like a home full of warmth, solidarity, and humanitarian values.
Hafidz Muhammad Usman Khan, a freshman from Pakistan currently studying in the International Program of International Relations (IPIREL), said that deciding to come to Indonesia and enroll at UMY was an excellent choice.
“I believe UMY not only provides us with knowledge, but also instills confidence, character, and a strong sense of humanity. InsyaAllah – God willing, UMY will shape us into future leaders and nation builders,” said Hafidz during the Parent/Guardian Gathering for UMY new students in the 2025/2026 academic year, held on Saturday (20/9).
Meanwhile, Osamah Bassam Qasem Al-Mekhlafi, a student from Yemen who was named the top graduate of UMY’s Information Technology Study Program, also shared a meaningful reflection during the joyful occasion. As an alumnus of a university that upholds a vision and mission of global humanitarian values, Osamah invited all members of the community, especially the UMY academic society in attendance, to reflect and remain vigilant about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine.
“In the midst of our happiness, we must not forget our brothers and sisters suffering from hunger and facing genocide in Palestine. Never stop speaking up. Never stop spreading the truth about what is happening there. Never stop praying for them, and may Palestine soon be free,” he expressed during the Graduation Ceremony for Diploma, Undergraduate, and Postgraduate Programs of UMY, Period I, Academic Year 2025/2026, held on September 10.
Furthermore, he conveyed an important message that earning a degree is not the end of learning, but rather a door to an ongoing growth for alumni to reach their dreams.
“Obtaining a degree is not the end of learning, it is the start of a new journey. Each of us will grow at our own pace. You are never too late, there is always a time to grow,” said Osamah.
