MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JORDAN – Muhammadiyah and Al Quds University (AQU) held a special meeting to follow up on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in January 2025, aimed at strengthening solidarity with Palestine.
The agreement outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions encompasses several key areas of cooperation, including strengthening ties and communication between the Palestinian and Indonesian peoples; enhancing and supporting scientific, medical, and academic excellence in Palestine; advancing research and development within Palestine’s academic landscape; establishing a dedicated endowment to support students and academic initiatives in Indonesia for the benefit of Al-Quds University; and facilitating student exchanges as well as the deployment of programs and experts across all academic levels at Al-Quds University.
Warmly welcoming the initiative and special offer to advance cooperation between the two parties, Chairperson of the Central Board (PP) of Muhammadiyah, Syafiq Mughni, expressed his readiness to establish the Jerusalem and Palestine Study Center at Muhammadiyah and ‘Aisyiyah Universities in Indonesia.
“The arrival of the President of AQU not only demonstrates a strong personal commitment, but also symbolizes the importance of cooperation with Muhammadiyah for Palestine. This synergy is expected to have a significant impact and contribute to socio-educational development in both countries, as well as strengthen the global voice of solidarity for Palestine,” explained Syafiq during the meeting held in Amman, Jordan, on Saturday, September 13.
Furthermore, Yayah Khisbiyah, Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Aid (MuAID) and Secretary of the Institute for International Cooperation Relations (LHKI) of PP Muhammadiyah, stated that this MoU marks a new chapter in collaboration focused on strengthening people-to-people relations, promoting academic excellence, and providing tangible support for the development of higher education and Palestinian society.
“We also received a warm offer from Professor Imad to establish a Muhammadiyah office on the Al-Quds campus. This is a great honor for us and a testament to the strong trust that AQU, in particular, and the Palestinian people, in general, have in Muhammadiyah,” Yayah said.
In addition, Al-Quds University is the first and only Arab university in Jerusalem, internationally recognized for excellence in higher education and research. It offers more than 100 study programs and enrolls approximately 12,700 students.
