Secretary of Muhammadiyah Muhammad Sayuti at a press conference on Saturday, January 20, mentioned that Muhammadiyah applies a reckoning method (hisab hakiki wujudul hilal) to enact the dates.
Muhammadiyah, relying on astronomical observations, determines that the new moon indicating the beginning of Ramadan 1445 AH is sighted on Sunday, March 10, 2024. The conjunction takes place at 16:07:42 Western Indonesian Standard Time. In Yogyakarta, the moon’s visibility at sunset is +00° 56′ 28″. The crescent is observed in most Indonesian regions at sunset on March 10, 2024, except in specific areas. Consequently, the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH in Indonesia falls on Monday, March 11, 2024.
On Monday, April 8, 2024, the new moon for Syawal 1445 AH has not been sighted. However, on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 01:23:10 Western Indonesian Standard Time, the crescent is visible. In Yogyakarta, the moon’s height at sunset on April 9, 2024, is +06° 08′ 28″, signifying its visibility. The crescent is above the horizon at sunset in Indonesia.
