MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) of the Central Board (PP) of Muhammadiyah through its Emergency Medical Team (EMT), held a Field Training Exercise as the final preparation stage in facing the World Health Organization (WHO) verification process.
The event held on September 15-17, 2025, at Sumbersari Field, Yogyakarta was a follow-up to the WHO pre-verification conducted on July 9-10, 2025. With support from Robert Koch Institute (RKI), International Search and Rescue (ISAR) Germany, Muhammadiyah Council for Public Health (MPKU), Muhammadiyah Council for Higher Education, and Muhammadiyah Department of Charity Management, Muhammadiyah EMT was declared eligible to proceed the full verification stage in order to gain official international recognition as a WHO-standard emergency medical team.
The Field Training Exercise aims to strengthen the overall preparedness of the team, covering logistics, medical logistics, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and field coordination. A total of 35 members of Muhammadiyah EMT participated in the simulation series, including field hospital set-up, area mapping, emergency medical services, and SOPs and teamwork mechanism evaluation.
Chairperson of PP Muhammadiyah MDMC, Budi Setiawan, stated that this field training exercise is a crucial milestone in ensuring the readiness of Muhammadiyah EMT for WHO verification.
“Alhamdulillah, after going through various stages of WHO evaluation and with the support of ISAR Germany and the RKI, Muhammadiyah Emergency Medical Team has made many improvements to its existing SOPs and logistics preparedness. We hope that the final verification by WHO, scheduled for the end of this month, will run smoothly. This Field Training Exercise was carried out to ensure that the SOPs developed are truly reliable in the field so that both theories and practices can go hand in hand. Our medical, logistics, and support teams are working together to demonstrate full readiness in serving communities affected by disasters, “he said.
Through this activity, Muhammadiyah reaffirmed its commitment for strengthening the role in disaster management and humanitarian responses. If Muhammadiyah EMT passes WHO verification, Muhammadiyah will be one of the civil society organizations in Indonesia with an internationally recognized EMT, ready to be deployed for humanitarian missions both domestically and globally.
