MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MALAYSIA – In a strategic step to strengthen its global education network, the Central Board of Muhammadiyah (PP Muhammadiyah), represented by PP Muhammadiyah Treasurer Hilman Latief and PP Muhammadiyah Chair Irwan Akib, accompanied by Sonny Zulhuda as the representative of Muhammadiyah University of Malaysia and the Muhammadiyah Special Branch (PCIM) Malaysia, paid an official visit to Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) on Wednesday (26/11).
The Muhammadiyah delegation received a warm welcome from UniMAP Naib Canselor (Vice Chancellor) Dato’ Prof. Ts. Dr. Zaliman Sauli and the university’s leadership at the UniMAP Chancellory Building. The meeting marks a new chapter in institutional relations between two leading educational institutions in Southeast Asia.
The welcoming ceremony took place in a solemn and culturally rich atmosphere, followed by an exchange of souvenirs symbolizing the shared commitment to building sustainable collaboration. The spirit of togetherness grew stronger during a luncheon featuring traditional Malaysian dishes, reinforcing the philosophy of “silaturahmi for synergy” embraced by both sides.
During the dialogue session, discussions focused on strengthening academic cooperation between UniMap and the Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah Universities (PTMA). In his remarks, Hilman Latief emphasized that this partnership is part of Muhammadiyah’s global role in advancing modern education rooted in research excellence.
“This synergy is not just a formal meeting, but a concrete manifestation of Muhammadiyah ‘s contribution to building national civilization through globally competitive education,” Hilman affirmed.
The Rector of UniMAP welcomed the initiative positively, expressing strong commitment to developing concrete programs, including student exchanges, joint research, strengthening engineering faculties and advancing the Islamization of knowledge.
The meeting concluded with a joint commitment to immediately follow up on several priority collaborative programs, such as student exchange, joint research, and faculty capacity building. The implementation of this partnership is expected to drive the development of high-quality human resources while strengthening the Indonesia-Malaysia role as a hub of modern Islamic education in Southeast Asia.
