MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MADRID – In a compelling address at the Indonesian Embassy in Madrid, Ambassador Mohammad Najib urged Muhammadiyah to accelerate its internationalization agenda. This strategic shift, Najib contended, is crucial in tackling two formidable global challenges: climate change and the inequitable distribution of power and resources.
Najib emphasized Muhammadiyah’s vital role in fostering a safe, just, and prosperous world, reiterating the universal right to prosperity regardless of national origin. He underscored the urgency of action, warning that the confluence of climate change and geopolitical imbalances, marked by Western dominance and the rise of new economic and military forces, could propel the world toward catastrophic natural and humanitarian disasters.
In this context, Najib envisioned Muhammadiyah playing a more proactive role on the international stage. He called for active collaboration with the Indonesian government to champion peace, advocate for equitable solutions, and contribute insightful alternative perspectives.
“Muhammadiyah should not remain on the sidelines, but rather rise to the call of humanity and join the global fight to save our planet,” said Najib.
Beyond advocacy, Najib envisioned leveraging Muhammadiyah’s domestic success on the international stage. He urged capitalizing on the organization’s century-long experience and expertise to empower its diaspora members.
“Engaging with global research centers, scientific hubs, and funding sources could not only enhance Muhammadiyah’s international standing but also mobilize and enhance the quality of its charitable endeavors within Indonesia,” said Najib.
Recognizing the significance of existing initiatives, Najib expressed the government’s unwavering support for the Muhammadiyah Special Branch (PCIM) of Spain. He encouraged further collaboration between PCIM, the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, and Muhammadiyah universities, drawing inspiration from the advancements made by other diaspora communities like those from China and India. Najib also highlighted the success of Turkey in establishing educational and economic centers across Europe, emphasizing that Indonesia, with its immense potential, has the capacity to achieve similar results on the global stage.
By embracing internationalization and actively engaging with these pressing global challenges, Muhammadiyah can solidify its position as a leading force for social justice, environmental sustainability, and equitable development. Najib’s impassioned call serves as a timely reminder of the organization’s critical role in shaping a brighter future for all.
