Muhammadiyah-LPDP Collaboration Strengthens Indonesia’s Research and Talent Ecosystem

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah, through its Higher Education, Research, and Development Council (Diktilitbang), has officially partnered with the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education Agency (LPDP) in the RISPRO Progressive Innovation Research Funding program.

The initiative aims to accelerate the downstream application of research outcomes for Muhammadiyah’s charitable enterprises (AUM) and the wider Indonesian community. It focuses particularly on research commercialization and innovative technological development.

The collaboration mobilizes a total of Rp20 billion under a pooling fund scheme, with balanced contributions of Rp10 billion from Muhammadiyah and Rp10 billion from LPDP.

Driving Research and National Talent Development

Speaking at an event held at Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta (UMY) on Thursday (19/2), Muhadjir Effendy, chairperson of Muhammadiyah Central Board, emphasized that the partnership represents a joint effort to strengthen research capacity and develop the nation’s high quality human resources.

Bambang Setiaji, chairperson of Diktilitbang Council, stressed that the collaboration should not stop at funding allocations. Instead, it must produce tangible outcomes that contribute to national progress, particularly for future generations within Muhammadiyah.

“We and the public hope this initiative truly delivers productive and innovative research,” he said. “We expect this funding to generate real industrial impact so that our country’s progress can be genuinely felt.”

Five Priority Research Themes

Meanwhile, LPDP Director of Research Facilitation Ayom Widipaminto explained that the scheme concentrates on five main themes. These include food security and agriculture; energy transition, materials, and manufacturing; health; engineering and digital technology; as well as social sciences, economics, and humanities.

Notably, the committee reviewed 187 proposals and selected 26 top submissions. Most of the winning proposals came from Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah Universities (PTMA), which demonstrates the competitiveness of their research ecosystem.

“This shows that research quality at PRMA is far from mediocre,” Ayom said.
