MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah has officially announced that 1 Ramadan 1447 H will fall on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, applicable globally.
This decision is based on the hisab hakiki (astronomical calculation) conducted by the Council for Religious Opinion and Reform, guided by the principles, requirements, and parameters of the Unified Global Hijri Calendar (Kalender Hijriah Global Tunggal/KHGT), as stated in Maklumat No.2/MLM/I.0/E/2025.
According to astronomical calculations, the conjunction (ijtima’) before Ramadan will occur on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. at 12:01:09 UTC. At sunset, on the same day, analysis showed that the visibility criteria for the crescent moon under Global Calendar Parameter (PKG) 1, which requires a minimum moon altitude of 5 degrees and elongation of 8 degrees before midnight UTC, were not met anywhere on earth.
However, the KHGT method proceeds by examining PKG 2. The hisab results confirm that efter 24:00 UTC, there are regions in American continent (at coordinates 56°48’49” N, 158°51’44” W) where moon meets the criteria, with an altitude of 5°23’35” and an elongation of 8°00’11”, while the conjunction occurs before dawn in New Zealand.
Therefore, based on the global matla’ (visibility zone of the new moon) unity principle, 1 Ramadan 1447 H is determined to begin simultaneously worldwide on February 18, 2026. This announcement provides clarity and certainty for Muslims, particularly members of Muhammadiyah, in preparing for the start of the fasting month. (Bintang Adrian)
