MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, PURWOREJO — A female student (santriwati) from Muhammadiyah Jono Junior High School (SMP Muhammadiyah Jono/Darul Arqam Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School), Bayan, Purworejo, Atsna Alayya Ilyana, proudly won second place in the 2025 International Water Rocket Competition held at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) last weekend.
Akhmad, the supervising teacher, explained that this international competition was a constitution of the National Water Rocket Competition organized by Langit Biru Anak Bangsa (LABIABA) Indonesia last June. At the national level, Atsna ranked fourth, earning her opportunity to advance to the international stage in which she successfully secured second place.
“This is the first time we’ve participated at the international level, while nationally, SMP Muhammadiyah Jono has joined this competition nine times since 2015,” said Akhmad in a press release on Wednesday (22/10).
He added that through this competition, the students have learned many valuable lessons. The effort to achieve such accomplishments, he noted, is part of the school’s commitment to implementing its flagship programs.
“Students sharpen their accuracy in calculations, think critically when their rocket misses the target, develop time discipline, perseverance through repeated practice and trials, and mental resilience during competitions. All of this reflects the implementation of SMP Muhammadiyah Jono’s flagship programs,” Akhmad explained.
“Meanwhile, Sri Siskawati, representative of Labiaba Indonesia, encouraged Indonesian students who joined the competition to continue striving for excellence. She also expressed hope that this national-to-interntional competition program would continue sustainably.
“This time, the water rocket competition reached the international level, held at USIM Malaysia. We hope that with this achievement, students will be even more motivated to improve their performance. Moreover, we truly hope that this program will continue in the future, said Siskawati.(Bintang Adrian)
