MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, CIANJUR – Residents of Burangkeng, Mangunkerta, Cugenang, Cianjur have been struggling with limited access to clean water for their daily needs in the aftermath of the Cianjur earthquake.
Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) and Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) responded by donating borehole wells to the people.
The Chair of MDMC Budi Setiawan expressed gratitude for UAD’s involvement in alleviating the residents’ burden.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to UAD for active participation in assisting the people of Burangkeng,” Budi said on Wednesday (July 5).
The aid may bring significant benefits and could be sustained over time. Sustainable empowerment is a characteristic of Muhammadiyah’s assistance.
The borehole wells were handed over on Saturday, July 1, 2023. Besides, UAD and MDMC donated sacrificial meat (qurban) and provided scholarships to the survivors in Burangkeng.
The Rector of UAD Muchlas M.T. mentioned that UAD offered scholarships and psychosocial support to the survivors besides the borehole wells and sacrificial meat. Those were part of UAD’s commitment to assist disaster survivors.
“UAD commits to raising the people of Burangkeng up after the earthquake struck their area at the end of 2022. We hope that UAD can alleviate their burdens and motivate them to move forward,” said Muchlas.
Furthermore, one of the beneficiaries Ira Rismayati expressed her sincere appreciation to UAD and MDMC for the assistance.
“We have received a wide range of support, including financial and psychological assistance to uplift the spirits of the residents to rebuild their lives after the earthquake,” said Ira.
