MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – In commemoration of the 2025 International Day of Persons with Difabilities, PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Hospital and Gamping, through Lazismu PKU Muhammadiyah, held the Gebyar Panggung Gembira celebrations for students with difabilities from Muhammadiyah Special Schools (SLB) across the Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) on Thursday (11/12).
The event, held at Grand Rohan Hotel, served as a creative platform for students to showcase their talents through various artistic performances and religious activities. Beyond being a stage for expression, the event also aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of equal access and opportunities for persons with difabilities.
Reinforcing Attention to Difability Rights
Tawakal Akbar Darojad, Chairperson of the Lazismu Service Office at PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital Yogyakarta-Gamping, stated that the annual observance of the International Day of Persons with Difabilities on December 3 is a momentum to strengthen attention to difability rights.
“As we all know, the world celebrates the International Day of Persons with Difabilities every December 3. Today, we present Gebyar Panggung Gembira as a form of appreciation and support for students with difabilities from Muhammadiyah Special Schools across DIY,” he said.
He emphasized Lazismu’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive environment by expanding access and opportunities for persons with disabilities to perform and grow.
“The purpose of this event is to provide a platform for students with difabilities showcase their abilities, proving that they possess extraordinary potential just like any other children,” he added.
Alfis Khoirul Khisholi, Vice Chairperson of Lazismu DIY, noted that the event was not merely entertainment but a strategic effort to shift public perspectives on difability.
“One of the messages we often hear from our friends with difabilities is: We do not want pity, we do not want sympathy, give us our rights. This is a crucial reminder. What they need is equal access and opportunity,” Alfis stressed.
Through Gebyar Panggung Gembira, Lazismu PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta-Gamping Hospital hopes to further encourage an inclusive environment in DIY, ensuring that persons with difabilities receive equal opportunities in education, employment, the arts, and religious activities. (Bintang Adrian)
