MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SURAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah has called on all Muhammadiyah institutions, not only its mosques, to actively participate in fundraising efforts for disaster survivors in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra.
The appeal was delivered by Haedar Nashir, the President of Muhammadiyah, on Saturday (13/12) at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS). He noted that several Muhammadiyah-‘Aisyiyah higher education institutions have already begun collecting donations.
“All Muhammadiyah institutions should take part—whether for Aceh, West Sumatra, North Sumatra, or other affected areas—in line with the circular issued by the Central Executive Board,” Haedar said.
The call aims to broaden public participation in disaster relief efforts. Previously, the Muhammadiyah leadership had issued a circular urging Muhammadiyah mosques to allocate Friday prayer donations to support disaster survivors in Aceh, West Sumatra and North Sumatra.
“However, not everyone attends Friday prayers—many women, for example,” Haedar said. “Those who do not participate in Friday prayers should also be given opportunities in other settings to contribute and share.”
Amid ongoing disaster conditions, he emphasized, national solidarity must be strengthened through mutual support and collective action.
“Let us extend help to our brothers and sisters in need, through any means available, so that the spirit of sharing remains alive,” Haedar said. “We should not merely discuss floods and disasters without demonstrating real concern and action.” (Bintang Adrian)
