Muhammadiyah Student Departs for Paris 2024 Olympics

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SURABAYA – Rahmad Adi Mulyono, an Indonesian rock climber, has departed for Paris, France, to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The talented athlete, along with three other Indonesian climbers, flew out of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

As announced by the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI), the quartet includes Rahmad Adi Mulyono and Veddriq Leonardo in the men’s category, and Rajiah Salsabillah and Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi in the women’s category.

Adi, a management student at Universitas Muhammadiyah (UM) Surabaya, expressed his excitement about participating in the Olympics.

“Wish me luck, so I can bring home a gold medal in the speed climbing category,” said Adi in a press release on Wednesday (July 31).

He added that he has been training rigorously and is confident about his chances.

“I’ve prepared as thoroughly as possible, and I’m fully focused on achieving excellent results for Indonesia,” said Adi.

Meanwhile, the rector of UM Surabaya Sukadiono expressed immense pride in Adi’s achievements.

“This is a truly remarkable accomplishment, especially considering that speed climbing is making its Olympic debut, and Indonesia has secured all four available spots in this category,” said Suko.

The university, he noted, has consistently supported its students who excel at the national and international levels.

“I am confident that Adi will make Indonesia proud and return home with a gold medal,” Suko added.

Adi, who is also a final-year student at UM Surabaya, is scheduled to graduate later this year.

“We hope that nothing will hinder him from attending his graduation ceremony in August,” said Suko.

Suko commended Adi for his ability to balance his academic pursuits with his athletic career.

“The university has implemented special policies and curricula to accommodate the unique needs of student-athletes. They are allowed to accomplish their studies without conducting and writing a final research project. They can choose to write a biography as their final project, which is what Adi has done,” said Suko.
