Nasyiatul Aisyiyah Bold Steps: Resilience, Health, and Environmental Advocacy

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA— Faced with the mounting pressures of economic woes, health concerns, and social challenges, many young families in Indonesia struggle to stay afloat. Recognizing this reality, Nasyiatul Aisyiyah is ramping up its “Keluarga Muda Tangguh” (Resilient Young Families) program, determined to bolster its support and resources for this demographic.

Launched in 2016, this initiative serves as a lifeline for many young families. Ariati Dina Puspitasari, President of Nasyiatul Aisyiyah, reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to “amplifying” the program’s reach in 2024. “We want to extend our impact and offer a helping hand to even more families facing these challenges,” she declared during a recent podcast hosted by the Media and Communication Office of Muhammadiyah in Yogyakarta on Friday (January 12)

One crucial focus area within the program is tackling stunting, a prevalent issue impacting child development. To address this head-on, Nasyiatul Aisyiyah has established a dedicated Department of Health, showcasing its unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of young families.

But Nasyiatul Aisyiyah isn’t stopping there. In a bold move, the organization has launched “GreeNasyiah,” a comprehensive initiative spanning education, advocacy, and practical implementation in the arena of environmental protection. “We not only want to educate but also empower communities to play an active role in safeguarding our planet,” explained Ariati. This aligns with the principles of environmental theology, reminding us of our collective responsibility for the well-being of the universe.

A prime example of GreeNasyiah in action is “Eco-bhinneka,” a pilot project fostering understanding and action alongside other faith communities, united by the common goal of environmental sustainability. The name itself, a blend of “eco” (environment) and “bhinneka” (diversity), embodies the program’s essence: embracing diversity while working towards a single, vital objective. Through Eco-bhinneka, Nasyiatul Aisyiyah hopes to ignite a collective consciousness about environmental preservation, ensuring a healthier future for generations to come.
