MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA — RS PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (a Muhammadiyah hospital) is actively raising awareness about the dangers of stunting as a concerted effort to assist the government in achieving the 2024 target of reducing stunting prevalence to 14 percent.
The Chief Executive Officer of RS PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta dr. Komaruddin underscored the critical nature of stunting prevention and appropriate intervention. Stunting is not only a health issue but also carries social implications.
“Effective prevention and treatment play a pivotal role in ensuring the optimal growth and health of toddlers,” said dr. Komaruddin at the seminar on stunting prevention at SM Tower & Convention on Wednesday, December 6.
Furthermore, dr. Retno Sulistiari Retnowati mentioned that stunting is influenced by several factors. Therefore, she emphasized the importance of awareness and prevention of low birth weight during pregnancy.
“Preventing low birth weight during pregnancy is pivotal,” said dr. Retno.
Multiple factors contribute to low birth weight, including first pregnancies, smoking, inadequate nutrition during pregnancy, and specific diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure.
“Diseases like diabetes and high blood pressure can significantly contribute to low birth weight,” mentioned dr. Retno.
While Indonesia has witnessed a decline in stunting rates, sustained efforts are indispensable to reach the 2024 target of 14% stunting prevalence.
As part of RS PKU Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta’s commitment to stunting prevention, the hospital provides facilities supporting child development and child nutrition consultations.
