MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA — Didik Suhardi, the Chair of the Muhammadiyah Council for Elementary and Secondary Education and Non-formal Education, recognizes the pressing need for Muhammadiyah Education to undergo a digital transformation in response to the monumental technological strides.
In the current landscape of the fourth industrial revolution, technology has seamlessly woven into the fabric of daily life for many. Education, a realm profoundly impacted by this digital age, has undergone unprecedented transformation.
Didik underscored the four indispensable character educations within Muhammadiyah Education: performance character, relational character, moral character, and spiritual character. Despite the challenges posed by evolving technologies, including artificial intelligence, Didik emphasized preserving Muhammadiyah’s intrinsic values.
“Amidst various technological challenges, including artificial intelligence, we should not forget that we, in Muhammadiyah, have our own set of values,” said Didik at the seminar on education, commemorating the 105th anniversary of Madrasah Mu’alimin and Mu’alimat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, on Friday (December 1).
Didik also highlighted the pivotal role of teachers as determinants in the transformation of Muhammadiyah Education.
“If teachers are not transformed, there will be no transformation. In today’s terms, it’s like not having a growth mindset; it’s a heavy burden,” said Didik.
Five Strategies for Muhammadiyah Education Transformation
In his presentation, Didik outlined five development systems that Muhammadiyah could adopt to realize superior education.
1. Teaching and Learning
Muhammadiyah education should instill progressive ISMUBA main characters, implement holistic and integrative education, and produce advanced graduates. Didik stressed the crucial role of teachers, emphasizing that if they only master specific materials and manage classes authoritatively, it could hinder productive environments for students.
2. Governance
Muhammadiyah education should implement transparent and accountable modern governance, inclusive education organization, and strengthen leadership and managerial competencies. Didik highlighted the urgency of three elements: school principal, school teachers, and management.
3. Collaboration
Muhammadiyah education should enhance collaborative networks between internal and external educational institutions and international collaboration.
4. Resources
Muhammadiyah education should innovate human resource development and improve the capacity and quality of educational facilities.
5. Service-Oriented
Muhammadiyah education should expand and develop the digitization of quality educational services and learning.
