EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, BUDAPEST – The Treatise of Progressive Islam was among the topics discussed at Beyond Motivation: Turning Ideas Into Impact. Muhammadiyah Special Branch Board in Hungary (PCIM Hungary), in collaboration with John von Neumann University, organized the event in Budapest, Hungary, on Saturday (17/10).
Achmad Harakan, Chairperson of PCIM Hungary, said cross-cultural encounters in educational settings offer an opportunity to introduce the values of Progressive Islam, which underpin Muhammadiyah’s dakwah to international communities.
“We want Muhammadiyah to become better known through its contributions. Events like this provide a space to exchange ideas, build networks, and introduce the values of Progressive Islam to International communities,” Harakan said.
He explained that Muhammadiyah’s internationalization involves more than expanding its organizational network across countries. It also means ensuring that Muhammadiyah’s presence benefits others, fosters good relationships, and builds closer ties with local communities.
This approach aligns with the Treatise of Progressive Islam, which positions dakwah for enlightenment as part of Muhammadiyah’s effort to promote an understanding of Islam that serves the welfare of the Muslim community.
Building Understanding through Personal Connections
Try Hardhyanthi, Chairperson of PCIM Hungary’s Publication and Information Council, expressed a similar view. She said the experiences of international students demonstrate the important role of personal relationships and cross-cultural communication in helping communities become more familiar with Muhammadiyah.
“People can get to know Muhammadiyah through their own experiences, including friendship. When there is room to meet and discuss ideas, understanding can develop naturally,” Try Hardyanthi said.
Through Beyond Motivation: Turning Ideas Into Impact, PCIM Hungary seeks to create opportunities that connect education, the exchange of ideas, and cross-cultural friendship. The initiative also forms part of Muhammadiyah’s broader efforts to expand its international contributions.
PCIM Hungary hopes these spaces for dialogue and friendship will continue to grow, strengthening its networks with international communities while raising awareness of Muhammadiyah in Hungary and across Central and Eastern Europe. (Bhisma)
