MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Irfan Rizki Haas, a young Muhammadiyah preacher, emphasized the importance of da’wa in the modern era, particularly through social media.
Irfan highlighted the growing popularity of social media as a platform for da’wa, citing data that shows Indonesia as the country with the highest internet usage time in the world in 2022, at 5.7 hours per day. Additionally, data indicates that 59% of smartphone usage is for accessing the internet, with social media being the primary focus.
In light of these trends, Irfan emphasized the need for effective, efficient, and economical da’wa models that resonate with the millennial and generation Z. He pointed out that these generations prefer da’wa with powerful narratives and oratory skills, and that TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube are the most popular platforms for da’wa.
Given the growing popularity of social media as a platform for da’wa, Irfan urged young Muhammadiyah cadres to take an active role in disseminating Muhammadiyah da’wa through social media. One way to achieve this is by producing short video content of Islamic lectures that can be uploaded on social media platforms.
Irfan emphasized the potential impact of such an approach, stating that if each Muhammadiyah branch can produce five video contents per day, Muhammadiyah will be able to contribute thousands of da’wa contents to social media. This number can be further multiplied through the efforts of Muhammadiyah autonomous organizations and educational institutions.
In addition to the quantity of content, Iran also stressed the importance of creating da’wa content that is relevant to the current times. He highlighted the thirst for da’wah content among millennials and Gen Z, and emphasized the need for Muhammadiyah to capitalize on this opportunity.
By actively engaging in da’wa through social media and creating content that resonates with the modern audience, Muhammadiyah can effectively reach out to the younger generation and contribute to the spread of Islamic values in the digital age.
