EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAPAN – The Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah has once again earned international recognition. dr. Corona Rintawan, representing the Muhammadiyah Emergency Medical Team (EMT), was appointed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a peer reviewer for the Verification Visit of Peace Winds Japan (PWJ)’s EMT on July 23–24 2026, in Japan.
The verification formed part of the WHO EMT Type 1 Mobile certification process. Peace Winds Japan needs to get through the process to gain recognition as an internationally certified EMT.
Over the two-day assessment, reviewers evaluated the team’s operational readiness, medical services, management system, logistics, and compliance with WHO’s established standards.
The Reputation of Muhammadiyah EMT
The appointment of dr. Corona Rintawan as a peer reviewer reflects WHO’s recognition of the Muhammadiyah EMT’s expertise and experience in developing and delivering emergency medical services that meet international standards.
The participation also underscores Muhammadiyah’s contribution to strengthening the quality of Emergency Medical Teams worldwide.
Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah EMT and Representative of MDMC dr. Corona Rintawan said that the trust placed in Muhammadiyah WHO provides an opportunity to continue learning, share expertise, and strengthen international collaboration in advancing EMT systems.
Muhammadiyah Contribute to Strengthening EMT Capacity Worldwide
“This appointment demonstrates that the quality of the Muhammadiyah EMT has gained international recognition. At the same time, it provides Muhammadiyah with an opportunity to continue growing, expand its global network, and enhance its contribution to humanitarian efforts around the world,” he said.
Finally, Peace Winds Japan officially obtained WHO EMT Type 1 Mobile certification. With this achievement, WHO now recognized Peace Winds Japan as an EMT qualified to provide emergency medical services in disaster responses worldwide in accordance with international standards.
In addition to dr. Corona, WHO also appointed Donny Mutiasa of the Muhammadiyah EMT as a co-mentor for the Indonesian Red Crescent EMT in preparation for its verification as an internationally certified WHO EMT Type 1 Mobile team.
MDMC’s involvement in the verification process reflects Muhammadiyah’s ongoing commitment to strengthening EMT capacity while expanding its role in humanitarian efforts at the national, regional, and global levels.
