MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SURAKARTA – Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) has been honored with the “Outstanding Initiative in Education” award at the 5th CNN Indonesia Awards, conducted on August 14. This prestigious recognition highlights the university’s exceptional efforts in attracting and supporting international students.
Prof. Sofyan Anif, the Rector of UMS, attributed the award to the university’s generous scholarship program, which has attracted students from all continents and has run for two years.
“UMS has seen a significant increase in international student enrollment, with over 8,500 applications received and more than a thousand students successfully admitted,” said Sofyan at the opening of the Muhammadiyah Press and Literacy Festival 2024 at the UMS, on Saturday, August 24.
The growing reputation of UMS as a top-tier university has played a crucial role in attracting international students. The university’s high-quality programs, coupled with its commitment to providing a supportive learning environment, have made it a desirable choice for students seeking a world-class education.
Sofyan emphasized that UMS has not only gained the trust of the public but has also earned recognition as a leading university, even when compared to public institutions.
Beyond its academic achievements, UMS is deeply committed to supporting the broader Muhammadiyah educational network. The university has actively shared its knowledge and resources to help smaller institutions grow and develop.
“As a larger institution, we have a responsibility to nurture and support our fellow universities,” said Sofyan.
Furthermore, UMS has integrated its institutional goals with the broader agenda of Muhammadiyah. The university has actively participated in and hosted Muhammadiyah events such as the 48th Muktamar (Muhammadiyah congress) and currently the Muhammadiyah Press and Literacy Festival. The university has strengthened its ties with the community and contributed to the organization’s mission.
