MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – Rector of the IPB University Arif Satria highlighted the importance of adopting Prophet Muhammad’s qualities in modern leadership, emphasizing the significant role of moral values and integrity.
Arif believed that leadership should not only be measured by managerial skills but should also embody moral principles and attitudes that are crucial in steering a successful leadership journey.
According to Arif, emulating the characteristics of Prophet Muhammad provides a strong foundation for effective leadership. He pointed out four key qualities of the Prophet that remain highly relevant in modern leadership: Siddiq (honesty), Fathonah (intelligence), Amanah (trust), and Siddiq (truthfulness). These traits, he noted, are essential for building trust, ensuring ethical decision-making, and fostering strong leadership.
In addition to these personal virtues, Arif emphasized the importance of social capital in advancing a nation. He explained that societies that foster trust and solidarity among their members are better equipped to collaborate and innovate, which in turn improves a country’s economic well-being.
“A society that possesses high levels of trust and cohesion will be more capable of working together and innovating to enhance the nation’s economic prosperity,” said Arif during the monthly Muhammadiyah preaching on Friday, September 13.
He further elaborated on how effective leadership, coupled with a society that exhibits mutual trust, often leads to economic progress. To illustrate this point, Arif used Japan as an example, describing how the country has been able to advance its economy largely due to the high levels of trust among its people.
“Social capital and a high degree of mutual trust are the key factors in fostering innovative and productive collaboration,” added Arif, stressing that this trust forms the foundation for effective cooperation and progress.
Arif also emphasized that successful leadership relies heavily on a combination of integrity, trust, and collaboration. He expressed confidence that leadership rooted in strong moral values can drive national development and prosperity.
“Leadership grounded in strong moral values will lead to progress to a nation,” said Arif.
