MUI Visits Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia to Explore Potential Collaboration in Education and Islamic Da’wa

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, PERLIS – A delegation of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), visited the Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) on Saturday, November 9. This visit marked a significant milestone as UMAM is the first Muhammadiyah university established overseas, becoming the pride for Indonesians.

The Chairperson of MUI K.H. Cholil Nafis mentioned the establishment of UMAM in Malaysia shows the strong relations between Malaysia and Indonesia, particularly in the realms of education and Islamic da’wa. He hoped the collaboration between MUI and UMAM can continue, especially in Islamic studies and education, to address the global challenges faced by Muslims today.

The visit took place in a warm and collaborative atmosphere and indicated the commitment to advancing Islamic education and da’wa in the modern era. “

“Through this visit, we hope to strengthen the cooperation between UMAM and MUI, and open up opportunities for broader collaboration in developing Islamic education to enhance Muhammadiyah’s contribution on the global stage,” said Cholil.

During the visit, the MUI delegation was warmly welcomed by UMAM’s leadership and academic staff. The university Vice Rector Professor Waluyo explained that UMAM offers various doctoral programs as part of its commitment to providing high-quality Islamic-based higher education that is open to global developments.

The doctoral programs are Information Technology, Education, Business and Management, Islamic Studies, and Social Studies.

“We strive to make a real contribution to higher education, especially for international students who want to pursue doctoral studies in fields relevant to the needs of the times,” he said.

He further noted that UMAM aims to become a globally competitive educational center while upholding Islamic values as its foundation.

Meanwhile, MUI Secretary-General Amirsyah Tambunan expressed his appreciation for the establishment of UMAM, considering it a significant step in strengthening the position and contribution of Indonesian Islamic higher education on the international stage.

“MUI fully supports the programs initiated by UMAM, especially those related to the development of Islamic studies and social sciences so that they can play a role in building civilization through a new generation of outstanding and competitive Muslim students,” he said.
