MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Haedar Nashir, President of Muhammadiyah, underscored the importance of national unity and reaffirmed strong support for Palestinian independence during a meeting with Ahmad Muzani, the Chairperson of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI).
The meeting took place on Sunday evening (6/4) at Haedar’s residence in Bantul, Yogyakarta, as part of a post-Eid al-Fitr gathering. During the nearly two hour discussion, Haedar, accompanied by his wife Siti Noordjannah Djohantini, shared updates on the progress of Muhammadiyah Charitable Enterprises.
These initiatives span education, healthcare, social welfare, and economic development. Moreover, Haedar emphasized that these efforts are rooted in the legacy of Ahmad Dahlan through the Al-Ma’un movement, as well as the emancipatory vision of Siti Walidah, inspired by the teachings of the Qur’an.
Constitutional Principles and Support for Palestine
Haedar noted that the current global geopolitical landscape remains volatile and unpredictable. Therefore, he argued, Indonesia must rely on its internal unity as a key strength.
He also expressed confidence in the leadership of Prabowo Subianto, stating that the administration would remain aligned with constitutional values.
“We believe President Prabowo, guided by constitutional principles and a commitment to sovereignty, will uphold independence, justice, and humanity in Indonesia’s global political stance, including in defending Palestine,” Haedar said.
In addition, the discussion touched on Indonesia’s long-term vision of building a “Golden Generation 2045.” Haedar explained that Muhammadiyah’s wide-ranging initiatives aim to contribute to this national goal, particularly by strengthening human capital and economic resilience.
“Muhammadiyah remains committed to that mission, while also reinforcing economic capacity,” he added.
Haedar also praised Muzani for engaging directly with the public, noting that such interactions reflect the importance of leadership presence. He conveyed appreciation from local community members, including neighborhood leaders and mosque administrators.
“They deeply appreciate when national figures engage directly with the people and lead by example,” he said.
Strengthening Collaboration for National Development
Following the discussion, Muzani visited the Muhammadiyah sub-branch office in North Tamantirto and a local Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit by ‘Aisyiyah. These visits highlighted Muhammadiyah’s grassroots involvement in community development.
Haedar reiterated that Muhammadiyah’s principle of independence centers on mobilizing its resources across sectors, while maintaining collaboration with government institutions and other stakeholders.
“We build and mobilize our potential through education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and social services, while continuing to cooperate with all parties, from the central government to local communities,” he said.
He added that Muhammadiyah has contributed significantly to national programs, including the government’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) initiative, with numerous service units already in operation.
Muzani, for his part, praised Muhammadiyah’s commitment to self-reliance and nation-building. He noted the alignment between the organization’s vision and broader national goals, particularly in fostering peace and development.
“We had a meaningful exchange of ideas. Our perspectives align on many important issues,” Muzani said.
Broad Support Needed for National Programs
Turning to the Free Nutritious Meals program, Muzani emphasized that its success depends on broad-based participation. He called for continued collaboration between the government and civil society organizations such as Muhammadiyah.
“This is a major national undertaking. It requires support and participation from all sectors of society,” he said.
Finally, Muzani conveyed greetings from President Prabowo Subianto to the Muhammadiyah community, reaffirming the government’s recognition of the organization’s role in advancing Indonesia’s development agenda.
