MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – ‘Aisyiyah is stepping up efforts to strengthen its Legal Aid Posts (Pos Bantuan Hukum/Posbakum), by improving governance, pursuing national accreditation and expanding inclusive legal services.
The initiative was discussed during an online institutional strengthening forum held on Sunday (28/12) by the Legal and Human Rights Council of ‘Aisyiyah’s Central Board, in collaboration with the ‘Aisyiyah INKLUSI Program.
Henni Wijayanti, chairperson of the council, described Posbakum as a strategic arm of ‘Aisyiyah’s humanitarian mission and its commitment to social justice. She said the organization has established 110 legal aid posts across Indonesia, nine of which have received accreditation from the Ministry of Law.
Moreover, as legal challenges grow more complex, Henni said, stronger governance and compliance with accreditation standards have become urgent. Accreditation, she added, serves as a benchmark for service quality, accountability, and institutional sustainability, while also ensuring professionalism and integrity in legal assistance.
She also stressed the need to improve human resources and mainstream the principles of gender, disability, and social inclusion (GEDSI). Fair legal services, she said, must respond to the barriers faced by women, people with disabilities, and poor or marginalized communities in accessing justice.
Governance, Inclusion and Legal Foundation
Masyitoh Chusnan, Chairperson of ‘Aisyiyah Central Board, said Posbakum is a mandate of the organization’s national congress. Effective planning, organization, implementation and evaluation, she said, are essential if the legal aid posts are to deliver real benefits.
Tri Hastuti Nur Rochimah, Secretary General of ‘Aisyiyah, said GEDSI mainstreaming reflects the organization’s humanitarian preaching rooted in the values of rahmatan lil ‘alamin. Legal services, she said, should reach everyone without discrimination.
Similarly, Arovah Windiani, Chairperson of Legal and Human Rights Council of ‘Aisyiyah Central Board, underlined the importance of clear ideological and legal foundations. Posbakum, she said, operates under ‘Aisyiyah core values and Indonesia’s 2011 Legal Aid Law.
Nevey Varida Ariani added that accreditation readiness has become a strategic priority. Through institutional strengthening and broader collaboration, she said, Posbakum is going to become more empowered, inclusive and just. (Suri) (Translated by Bintang Adrian)
