MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Muhammadiyah Council for Welfare Development (MPKS) collaborated with the Muhammadiyah Institute for Zakat, Infaq, and Alms Management (Lazismu), Alfamart, and the National Alms Agency (BAZNAS) to initiate the Inclusive Economic Movement (GEI) program aimed at supporting people with disabilities.
The Chair of the MPKS Mariman Darto mentioned that the program was the implementation of the decree of the 48 Congress (Muktamar) of Muhammadiyah in Surakarta.
Muhammadiyah views the economic inclusion movement as a crucial national issue, strongly emphasizing fostering a fair and inclusive public environment. This is crucial for people with disabilities, who become a vulnerable group affected by industrial and societal shifts, including challenges related to access, ownership, and the availability of public spaces.
“Regulation enforcement, disability rights protection, public space management, and opportunity provision for people with disabilities are crucial. Hence, Muhammadiyah actively supports the government to guarantee fundamental rights of the people with disabilities, particularly by fostering inclusive economic participation through this initiative,” said Mariman Darto in a press release on Wednesday (August 23).
For information, the launch was also attended by 30 beneficiaries, the Chairman of Muhammadiyah dr. Agus Taufiqurrahman, the Director of Social Rehabilitation for People with Disabilities at the Ministry of Social Affairs Nur Syamsu, and representatives from PT Sumber Alfaria Trijaya (Alfamart), and the National Alms Agency (BAZNAS).
