MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, ACEH – Haedar Nashir, President of Muhammadiyah, delivered a message of unity from Aceh to the nation as part of efforts to support disaster survivors in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra.
The call for solidarity was conveyed during the handover of humanitarian assistance to disaster survivors in Aceh on Tuesday (16/12). Haedar was accompanied by several members of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah, including Agung Danarto, Anwar Abbas, dr. Agus Taufiqurrahman, and Secretary Muhammad Sayuti.
Also present at the event were donor Yendra Fahmi and leaders of the Muhammadiyah Provincial Board of Aceh. Haedar urged the public to view the disaster as a moment to strengthen unity and avoid divisions within the nation.
“This is a test of our unity, brotherhood, and ukhuwah,” Haedar said. “It is in moments of great hardship that we are tested. And as God has promised, with every difficulty comes a way forward.”
Haedar acknowledged that recovery efforts across the three provinces must be carried out gradually. He emphasized that Muhammadiyah would continue to stand alongside other elements of the nation to help ease the suffering faced by affected communities.
After observing the extent of the damage in Aceh, Haedar also called for an enhanced emergency response supported by modern and compatible equipment, combined with a well-prepared disaster management system. Such measures, he said, are essential to ensure that the hardships faced by residents can be addressed more quickly and effectively.
He expressed his appreciation to all parties who have contributed assistance in any form to help disaster survivors in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra. He also thanked the Muhammadiyah community who have organized and channeled aid in a coordinated manner through Lazismu.
“Muhammadiyah is moving in step with the government at the local, regional and national levels,” Haedar said. “We deeply feel the suffering and heavy burden faced by our brothers and sisters in Aceh. Alongside our prayers, we are making every possible effort to help.”
