MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, SURAKARTA – Following up on the collaboration between the Central Board of Muhammadiyah (PP Muhammadiyah) and the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) during the 2024 Muhammadiyah Tanwir National Meeting, Muhammadiyah established the National Coordination Team for Muhammadiyah Nutritious Meal Program (Kornas MBM)
Hilman Latief, Head of Kornas MBM, explained that the MBM initiative is part of Muhammadiyah’s contribution to supporting the government’s Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG).
Since its establishment after the Tanwir National Meeting in Kupang, Muhammadiyah has developed 105 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) across various regions with, with 150 more SPPGs currently under construction in 17 provinces.
“We hope that by commemorating MBM’s first anniversary, we can establish between 250 and 300 SPPGs to serve students, pregnant women, and Islamic boarding school students,” said Hilman on Friday (10/24) during the 67th Anniversary of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta (UMS).
The Kornas MBM oversees several models of SPPG, including school-based, pesantren-based, orphanage-based, university-based, and public models. Collectively, these service units have provided nutritious meals to over 100.000 students every day.
“Every day, we serve more than 100,000 students, and to date, there have been no reports of food poisoning or malpractice,” Hilman affirmed.
Looking ahead, Kornas MBM will focus on building a sustainable SPPG ecosystem. Hilman also called for stronger collaboration between the national coordinator, Muhammadiyah councils, institutions, and Muhammadiyah social enterprises (AUM). (bintang adrian)
