MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, RIAU – Aliya Nengsih, a Public Relations student at Universitas Muhammadiyah Riau (Umri), has brought immense pride to the university by winning the gold medal at the prestigious 7th Genwin Malaysia International Taekwondo Championship.
Held on Saturday, July 20 at the KSL Esplanade Mall in Kuala Lumpur, the championship saw Aliya compete fiercely in the Senior Female U-58kg category. Displaying exceptional skill and determination, she emerged victorious in all three matches.
“It was a challenging yet rewarding experience. Overcoming the competition from China and Malaysia in the preliminary rounds was a significant achievement, but the final match against Brazil was truly intense,” said Aliya in a press release on Tuesday, August 6.
“Alhamdulillah, I won both the preliminary match against the Chinese athlete and the second match against the Malaysian athlete with a clear 2-0 score,” said Aliya.
The final match proved to be the most challenging. Aliya faced a formidable opponent from Brazil in a heated and intense battle. However, she managed to secure a narrow 2-1 victory, claiming the gold medal.
Aliya revealed that she required medical attention after the intense final match. She admitted to pushing herself beyond her limits during the three grueling rounds.
