MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Perlis and Muhammadiyah should become role models for innovative Islamic understanding and the power of Islam in Southeast Asia, promoting peaceful Islam, so interpretation Islam should be open, modern, and relevant to the era.
“It is essential for Perlis and Muhammadiyah to strengthen partnerships. Collaboration between Perlis and Muhammadiyah will enable us to promote enlightening Islam,” said President of Muhammadiyah Haedar Nashir in a banquet on Sunday (September 24).
According Haedar, Perlis and Muhammadiyah have to interconnect young generations from both countries so both organizations can have long-term cooperation.
“It is vital for Perlis and Muhammadiyah to be media to link youths, so both organizations can have strong future relations,” said Haedar.
Haedar Nashir mentioned khilafiyah (differences of opinion) should not trigger division. Muhammadiyah upholds kuntum khair ummah (the significance of the best people who benefit others). Muhammadiyah is also well-known as an adaptive movement to local wisdom but highly upholds religious values.
Besides, Haedar thanked Perlis officials for supporting the establishment of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM), which becomes one of Muhammadiyah internationalizations programs.
