Perlis and Muhammadiyah Will Collaborate in Many Realms

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA — Chairman of Muhammadiyah for Tarjih and Tajdid Syamsul Anwar welcomed a visit of Dr. Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin (Dato’ Maza) with his entourage, the delegation of the Malaysian Mufti Perlis Office in Yogyakarta.

Syamsul Anwar mentioned that Muhammadiyah, particularly Perlis, has cooperated in establishing Universitas Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM). Thus, the visit enabled both parties to collaborate in many areas.

“When I came to Perlis last year, they told me they would like to visit Yogyakarta and have institutional cooperation with Muhammadiyah,” said Syamsul.

For example, the collaboration can be a student exchange that students of Perlis studied at the Pendidikan Ulama Tarjih Muhammadiyah (PUTM). Indeed, the Perlis Mufti Dato’ MAZA also expected Muhammadiyah to found an Islamic boarding school in Perlis.

“May we achieve the dreams,” said Syamsul.

Furthermore, Dato’ Arif Perkasa Dr. Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin (Dato’ MAZA) mentioned that his and his entourage’s visit aimed to share ideas with Muhammadiyah and link Perlis and Muhammadiyah due to their similarities as both are socio-Islamic organizations, belong to allied countries, and live in a country with the majority of Muslims.

“This visit enables us to find out areas to coin collaboration between Indonesia through Muhammadiyah and Perlis,” said Dato’ MAZA.

According to Dato’ MAZA, Muhammadiyah as an organization can develop tajdid as a basis for thinking and action. Muhammadiyah’s spirit of tajdid has led this Islamic organization to have the most outstanding contributions to the world.
