Gender Inequality Does Not Exist in Muhammadiyah
MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, TEGAL – President of ‘Aisyiyah, Salmah Orbayyinah said that every deliberation of Muhammadiyah should be joyful, enthusiastic, well-organized, and disciplined.
Regarding the role of women in the context of humanity, nationality, and universal humanity, at the early beginning of the Aisyiyah establishment, K.H. Ahmad Dahlan provided opportunities for ‘Aisyiyah women to preach as equally as men.
“Gender inequality no longer exist in Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah. Aisyiyah always leverages its potential, gives, and contribute to politics instead of only focusing on chores,” said Salmah Orbayyinah at the opening of the 8th Regional Meeting of Muhammadiyah-Aisyiyah of Central Java in GOR Wisanggeni, Tegal, on Saturday (4/3).
Citing lyrics of ‘Aisyiyah’s song, Salmah Orabyyinah mentioned that women don’t have a crown, but heaven is beneath their feet. Besides, women play roles in public to evolve this nation, so Aisyiyah women should be capable of actualizing their values.
According to Salmah Orbayyinah, the Aisyiyah Regional Meeting was more than a regular event of an organization to elect new leaders. It was a moment to reinforce the sustainability of women’s da’wa in life aspects.
Gender equality in Muhammadiyah is obviously presented in Aisyiyah institutions and this women’s wing organization is allowed to establish universities, hospitals, schools, and kindergartens as Muhammadiyah does.
Furthermore, Salmah Orbayyinah, who’s also teaching staff of Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), appreciated da’wa collaboration of Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah of Central Java.
“Muhammadiyah and Aisyiyah da’wa is targeted, and is not merely through preaching. The movements have undertaken many programs,” said Salmah Orbayyinah.
