Muhammadiyah’s Rapid Response: 1,500+ Food Packages Provided for West Sumatra Disasters

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, PADANG – The Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) swiftly provided over 1,500 food packages in response to the flood and landslide disasters in Padang City, Agam Regency, and Padang Pariaman Regency from Friday (July 14) to Saturday (July 15).

In collaboration with LazisMu (The Muhammadiyah Institute for Zakat, Infaq, of Alms Management) of West Sumatra, the MDMC assessed disaster-affected people in need of assistance. They also distributed 54 grocery packages in Maninjau, Agam Regency, on Saturday (July 15).

“Five personnel have been deployed, with three conducting data assessments and two distributing grocery packages in Maninjau,” said the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Regional Board of Agam Regency Marhadi Efendi on Sunday (July 16).

Since July 14, 2023, Muhammadiyah has been providing relief efforts on the ground, distributing 600 ready-to-eat food packages—300 during the day and 300 in the evening. On July 15, an additional 900 rice packages were distributed in Dadok Tunggul Hitam, Padang City, as residents faced challenges in cooking due to submerged utensils.
