Shifting Paradigm: The Industrialization of Education and Teachers as Laborers

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Chairman of Muhammadiyah Busyro Muqoddas mentioned a shift in educational perspectives that has positioned teachers as laborers.

Indonesia’s educational regulations have changed substantially, leaning towards education industrialization.

According to Busyro, although the initial aim of education in Indonesia is to humanize humans, the current implementation resembles an industrial model, with educators assuming roles similar to laborers.

“Our education is shifting toward a new culture that demands teachers to deal with educated individuals through a industrial means,” said Busyro in the discussion conducted by the Muhammadiyah Institute for Wisdom and Public Policy on Monday (August 28).

If this educational trend continues, it may impede Indonesia’s advancement. Thus, Muhammadiyah, focusing on education, health, economics, and politics, is committed to fostering beneficial transformation.

“We should formulate an education paradigm based on human dignity, liberation, and transcendence. Our current education system is in disarray, largely due to those who have undermined its principles,” said Busyro.

The 2024 election offers a chance to address current problems. Busyro stressed honesty and vigilance against fraud, urging the public to closely monitor the process.

Busyro said a successful election and the right leaders would naturally lead to well-structured policies and regulations.
