PCIA Hong Kong: Promoting Progressive Women and Empowering Migrant Workers

MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – The ‘Aisyiyah Special Branch (PCIA) of Hong Kong plays dual roles in promoting A Treatise of Progressive Women (Risalah Perempuan Berkemajuan) and providing support to Indonesian migrant workers.

“The PCIA of Hong Kong becomes a medium to provide training for the Indonesian migrant workers so that they benefit others when returning to Indonesia,” said President of ‘Aisyiyah Salmah Orbayinah in the inauguration of the PCIA of Hong Kong 2024-2026 on Sunday, September 1.

The PCIA of Hong Kong is also expected to reinforce Muhammadiyah internationalization as the implementation of the Treatise of Progressive Women and Islam as rahmatan lil ‘alamin (a mercy for the whole world). Thus, Salmah encouraged the new leadership of the PCIA of Hong Kong to strengthen its da’wa and expand its networks.

“To play a global role, the PCIA can develop collaborations in education, health, social welfare, and humanitarian efforts. Moreover, the PCIA should coordinate with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the PCIA of Hong Kong has significant impacts in promoting ‘Aisyiyah worldwide,” said Salmah.

Salmah also urged the PCIA leadership to uphold the Indonesian national ideology of Pancasila and foster unity among Indonesians, wherever they may be.

Meanwhile, a representative of the Information, Socio and Cultural Affairs Department of the Indonesian Consulate General Endah Rachmi Yuliarti in Hong Kong expressed her appreciation for the ‘Aisyiyah Hong Kong branch’s contributions and its strong partnership with the consulate. She hoped that the new leadership would continue to promote Islam and support Indonesian migrant workers amidst the rapid development of socio-economy in Hong Kong.

“The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong is always ready to support the positive activities of the PCIA, which can be utilized by our migrant workers,” said Endah.

Besides, Ebta Dwi Anggraini, the newly elected chairperson of the PCIA Hong Kong 2024-2026, expressed her gratitude for being chosen to lead the organization. She viewed this as a calling to serve and contribute to the advancement of ‘Aisyiyah and the broader community.

“I ask for your prayers and guidance so that I can strive to carry out the vision and mission of ‘Aisyyah to uplift the dignity of women, including migrant workers,” said Ebta.

The inauguration ceremony concluded with the reading of the decision letter by the Secretary-General of ‘Aisyiyah Tri Hastuti Nur Rochimah officially recognizing the new board members of the PCIA of Hong Kong 2024-2026.

The board members of the PCIA of Hong Kong are as follows:
