MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, MOJOKERTO – A study by the Pew Research Center revealed that Indonesia has the highest percentage of religious believers, with 96% of its population having faith in God. This high level of religious belief surpasses even countries like Turkey and Egypt.
The Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Council for Religious Preaching Fathurrahman Kamal emphasized the remarkable statistic shows Indonesia’s deep-rooted spirituality and presents a significant opportunity to foster national stability and unity.
He further argued that Indonesia’s strong faith not only contributes to domestic stability but also positions the nation to play a pivotal role in addressing global crises.
Muhammadiyah, as one of the largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia, has contributed to global peace efforts. Fathurrahamn mentioned that the organization’s consistent support for Palestine demonstrates its commitment to humanitarian causes.
“We don’t just talk about helping Palestine; we act upon it. We have consistently provided support, including a substantial donation of two billion rupiah in a previous consolidation effort,” said Fathurrahman at the Muhammadiyah preaching conducted by the Muhammadiyah Regency Board of Mojokerto on Sunday, October 27.
In Indonesia, he emphasized the crucial roles played by Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in fostering unity and stability.
“Both Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama play a central role in guiding the community and maintaining the stability of our nation. I cannot imagine Indonesia without these two organizations,” he asserted.
Fathurrahman called upon Muhammadiyah and NU members and other stakeholders, including security forces, to collaborate in protecting Indonesia’s unity.
“These two organizations are pillars of support. Let the state apparatus focus on governing the world, while we focus on upholding our faith,” he said.
