EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, PALANGKARAYA – Kalimantan wildfires have worsened from August through late september. The daily hotspot count is now reaching 189,000 spots according to the province’s Disaster Management and Firefighting Agency (BPB-PK).
Prolonged drought and thick smoke haze have further heightened the threat. In response Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center, Lazismu of Central Kalimantan, and its autonomous organizations, has continued its disaster response efforts under the One Muhammadiyah One Response (OMOR) initiative.
On Thursday (1/10), Muhammadiyah distributed 250 portable oxygen cans to volunteers directly involved in firefighting and disaster response.
The portable oxygen supplies are intended as first aid for volunteers experiencing shortness of breath due to exhaustion while working in the field.
The distribution covered four service posts: 75 cans for MDMC Palangka Raya; 75 cans for MDMC East Kotawaringin; 50 cans from MDMC Katingan; and 50 cans for MDMC West Kotawaringin.
Support from Donors and Muhammadiyah Networks
Inayati Maharani, Chairperson of the coordination post, said the assistance was made possible through cooperation among various parties. She expressed particular appreciation to donors from Lazismu East Java and PT Samator Group for providing the portable oxygen supplies.
“The spirit of One Muhammadiyah One Response reflects our commitment to remaining useful and offering solutions amid disasters. This support strengthens community health resilience, especially for volunteers working in the field. We hope this collective effort will bring blessings and spiritual rewards to everyone involved,” Inayati said.
Meanwhile, Kurniawan, area manager of Lazismu Central Kalimantan, outlined several initiatives carried out through the Indonesia Siaga program. These include deploying volunteers for firefighting and fire suppression, establishing oxygen centers at several locations, and distributing nutritional support. The oxygen centers have been set up at the Central Kalimantan Muhammadiyah Da’wah Center and in Palangka Raya, East Kotawaringin, Muara Teweh, Kasongan, and West Kotawaringin.
The latest initiative, he said, is the distribution of portable oxygen cans to volunteers.
