EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – Din Syamsuddin emphasized women education as more than an individual investment. It is also an important foundation for building a stronger and more developed civilization.
He delivered the message at Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta during an Inspirational Dialogue on Wednesday (5/8) at the Prof. Siti Baroroh Baried Hall on its campus.
The event carried the theme “Building Civilization through Women Education.” It featured Din Syamsuddin, who served as president of the Muhammadiyah Central Board from 2005 to 2010 and again from 2010 to 2015, as the keynote speaker.
The dialogue brought together the school’s academic community, including students, teachers, and staff.
Mu’allimaat History as a Women Cadre School
Madrasah Mu’allimaat Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta Director Unik Rasyidah said the institution is a women’s cadre school founded by Muhammadiyah founding father KH Ahmad Dahlan.
With its long history, Mu’allimaat carries a major responsibility. It aims to develop knowledgeable women cadres who can inspire society, the nation, and the wider Muslim community.
Through the dialogue, Unik hoped Din Syamsuddin would inspire and motivate students and educators. She said his insights could also help strengthen their leadership character.
“Hopefully, Prof. Din’s insight will give us additional motivation to develop strong leadership qualities and outstanding intellectual abilities. We need to become strong individuals because we are an important part of civilization,” Unik said.
Balancing Faith and Knowledge
In his presentation, Din Syamsuddin stressed the importance of balancing religious commitment with knowledge.
He described faith as a fundamental foundation for how people think, behave, and act. At the same time, he said education plays a crucial role in shaping individuals with strong character and broad perspective.
For Din, education also helps women develop firm principles when facing life’s challenges. With access to quality education, women can develop their potential while contributing to their families, communities, and the nation.
