MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, DELISERDANG — Senior leaders of Muhammadiyah expressed confidence that preparations for the organization’s 49th Muktamar National Congress remain firmly on schedule, following visible progress in the construction of the main venue at the University of Muhammadiyah North Sumatra (UMSU).
During a site visit on Sunday (28/12), Muhammad Sayuti, Secretary of Muhammadiyah’s Central Executive Board, praised the pace and scale of development. He described the project as a significant milestone, not only for Muhammadiyah but also for North Sumatra more broadly.
“This is my second visit,” Sayuti said. “The first time, in 2024, there was nothing here. It was just a vast, empty field. Now, two major buildings already stand before us.”
The two structures under construction will serve as the primary venues for the 49th Muhammadiyah National Muktamar Congress and the parallel Muktamar of ‘Aisyiyah, the organization’s women’s wing. According to Sayuti, the transformation of the site reflects both careful planning and sustained commitment.
Moreover, Sayuti highlighted the dedication of multiple stakeholders involved in the project. Construction teams, he noted, have worked tirelessly, often day and night, to meet the ambitious timeline. As a result, physical progress has kept pace with organizational expectations.
Long-Term Planning Shapes Congress Preparations
Sayuti emphasized that preparations for a congress of this scale cannot be rushed. Instead, Muhammadiyah began planning several years in advance, even though the congress itself is scheduled for 2027.
“This project started last year,” he said. “We want Muhammadiyah to remain an organization that plans well and thinks far ahead.”
In addition, Sayuti framed the venue development as part of Muhammadiyah’s broader organizational culture. Strategic foresight, he argued, allows the movement to manage large-scale events without compromising quality or inclusiveness.
Similar optimism was echoed by Anwar Abbas, chairman of Muhammadiyah’s Central Executive Board, who also inspected the site. He confirmed that, if construction continues according to plan, the venue will be completed in early 2027.
Therefore, Abbas expressed strong confidence that the facilities will be ready well before the congress begins. He added that the project will stand as a source of pride for Muhammadiyah members in North Sumatra and for the wider community.
Ultimately, Muhammadiyah leaders see the venue’s progress as more than infrastructure development. Instead, it symbolizes organizational discipline, long-term vision, and collective responsibility, values they believe will define the success of the 49th Muktamar.
