The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity, launched in 2019 following the historic meeting between Pope Francis and His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed El-Tayeb, embodies the spirit of the “Document on Human Fraternity.” It serves as a powerful testament to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s legacy, the founder of the United Arab Emirates, who was renowned for his unwavering commitment to humanitarian work and interfaith understanding.
Joining Muhammadiyah in receiving the honor were representatives from Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) of Indonesia, Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, a renowned pediatric cardiologist from Egypt, and Sister Nelly Leon Correa of Chile, whose organization empowers women in prison.
The award ceremony, scheduled for February 5th in Abu Dhabi, promises to be a significant event, celebrating the exceptional contributions of these individuals and organizations to building a more peaceful and just world.
This recognition serves as a powerful validation of Muhammadiyah’s unwavering dedication to improving lives and fostering global understanding. Their journey serves as an inspiration to all, reminding us that through collaboration and a shared commitment to humanity, we can build a brighter future for generations to come.
