MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, YOGYAKARTA – President of Muhammadiyah Central Board, Haedar Nashir, called on all Muhammadiyah-’Aisyiyah Universities (PTMA) to continue playing an active role in responding to the floods that have struck Aceh and Sumatra.
Haedar delivered the message while giving remarks at a Coordination Meeting between the Central Board of Muhammadiyah and the Forum of PTMA Rectors, held at the Central Board Office Hall in Yogyakarta on Tuesday (23/12).
He emphasized that PTMA is an integral part of One Muhammadiyah, One Response (OMOR), Muhammadiyah’s collective framework for disaster response in Aceh and Sumatra. According to Haedar, Muhammadiyah must consistently demonstrate its active role and continue moving to assist fellow citizens affected by natural disasters.
“We still have a long way to go, because the rehabilitation and reconstruction phases require our continued active involvement. Therefore, we must keep moving,” Haedar stated.
In line with Muhammadiyah’s long-standing commitment to addressing disasters both domestically and internationally. Haedar expressed confidence that Muhammadiyah is increasingly demonstrating progress in taking on a broader role for disaster-affected communities.
He also shared the latest update on fundraising efforts, noting that donations collected through Friday infaq from Muhammadiyah members for disaster victims have exceeded IDR 39 billion. With strong support from members of the organization and Muhammadiyah’s Social Enterprise (AUM), this achievement serves as both capital and motivation for Muhammadiyah to expand its impact and further enhance fundraising efforts that have been ongoing for nearly three weeks.
“We are no longer on the margins. Institutions and the public now place us at the forefront in terms of experience and capacity. This is a real challenge for us to fulfill that trust as best as possible,” he explained.
Furthermore, Haedar stressed the importance of synergy and collaboration among all Muhammadiyah charitable enterprises, particularly PTMA and Muhammadiyah Hospitals. Such collaboration is essential for developing effective schemes to accelerate future emergency response efforts.
“PTMA and Muhammadiyah hospitals are like wings of the organization. They must move in harmony. The human resources within these charitable enterprises are extraordinary and must continue to be optimized. This spirit of progress needs to be awakened together to foster a spirituality that drives recovery,” he said.
In closing, Haedar highlighted PTMA’s strategic role in establishing academic research centers that can contribute to policymaking at the national level. He encouraged PTMA to conduct strategic studies aligned with Muhammadiyah’s vision and mission.
“PTMA can become centers of academic inquiry and initiative that emerge from within our own institutions. Therefore, communication between PTMA and the Central Board of Muhammadiyah must be continuously maintained so that future research aligns with the organization’s vision and initiatives,” Haedar concluded.
With this collective commitment, Muhammadiyah, through PTMA and all its charitable enterprises, is expected to further strengthen its strategic role in disaster management, not only during emergency response, but also throughout the rehabilitation and reconstruction phases.
