MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID JAKARTA — The Central Board of Muhammadiyah expresses deep condolences following the death of an Indonesian soldier during a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.
Private Farizal Romadhon, a member of the Indonesian National Army (TNI), fell in the line of duty while serving as a part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). He have died in an artillery attack in southern Lebanon on Sunday (29/3), amid escalating tensions in the region.
The incident also left three other Indonesian personnel injured. One soldier remains in critical condition, while two others sustained minor injuries, underscoring the growing risks faced by peacekeeping forces operating in the conflict zone.
Muhammadiyah Calls for Restraint amid Escalation
Syafiq Mughni, Chairperson of Muhammadiyah Central Board, extended his condolences to the family of the deceased and to the Indonesian military as a whole. He emphasized that the soldier’s service reflected Indonesia’s commitment to global peace.
“The Central Board of Muhammadiyah conveys its deepest condolences on the passing of Private Farizal Romadhon,” he said on Tuesday (31/3). “He was among the nation’s finest, who devoted his life to fulfilling a humanitarian mission for global peace.”
Syafiq also offered prayers that the deceased be granted husnul khatimah, that his good deeds be accepted and that he be granted the best place in the sight of God. He further expressed the hope that the bereaved family would be given strength, patience, and resilience in facing their loss.
Moreover, Muhammadiyah voiced concern over the intensifying conflict in southern Lebanon, which has increasingly endangered peacekeeping personnel, including the Indonesian contingent.
“We call on all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint, respect international humanitarian law, and ensure the safety of peacekeeping personnel carrying out their humanitarian mandate,” Syafiq added.
Indonesia’s Commitment to Global Peace
In addition, Muhammadiyah reaffirmed its full support for Indonesia’s active role in international peacekeeping efforts within the United Nations Interim Force. The organization noted that such participation reflects the country’s constitutional commitment to promoting a world order based on independence, lasting peace, and social justice.
Therefore, the loss of Praka Farizal not only represents a national tragedy but also highlights the broader challenges faced by peacekeepers working in volatile regions. At the same time, it underscores Indonesia’s continued dedication to contributing to global stability despite mounting risks.
