EN.MUHAMMADIYAH.OR.ID, JAKARTA – The Central Board of Muhammadiyah welcomed a visit from Cheikh Baba Diallo, a spiritual leader and head of Liwaul Hamdi, a Muslim community in Senegal, West Africa.
The visit provided an opportunity to explore exchanges of Islamic and spiritual values and to develop cooperation in education, social affairs, and environmental sustainability.
Syafiq Mughni, Chairperson of the Muhammadiyah Central Board, received the delegation at Muhammadiyah Central Board office in Jakarta on Wednesday (28/10).
During the meeting, the Senegalese delegation introduced the Liwaul Hamdi community, based in Kaolack, and its Solution Bay: Spirituality movement which promotes shared responsibility for building a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable society.
The senegalese delegation said the visit aimed to strengthen ties between their community and Muhammadiyah. They further noted shared interests in education, social initiatives, sanitation, and environmental conservation.
“We hope this visit will mark the beginning of a good relationship between Muhammadiyah and our community, Liwaul Hamdi. We want to build strong ties and exchange spiritual and Islamic values,” a representative of the Senegalese delegation said.
The representative explained that Muhammadiyah served as a source of inspiration for their community because of its work in building schools, developing education, and carrying out various social initiatives. These shared interests had encouraged them to explore collaboration that could benefit both communities.
Meanwhile, Syafiq Mughni explained that the Solution Bay: Spirituality concept places spirituality as one of the foundations for building a peaceful, prosperous society that cares for the environment.
“Spirituality exists in various religions, and therefore all religions can work together to build a peaceful and prosperous society and protect the environment,” Syafiq explained.
The meeting is expected to serve as an initial step toward strengthening ties between Muhammadiyah and the Senegalese Muslim community through exchanges of Islamic ideas, community development, and collaboration. (taufik)
